The source DEM was created to ensure (with the exception of the obscurred areas) that 90% of all 5 foot contours will be accurate within +- half of the contour interval and no solid line contour shall be in error by more than a full contour interval. Ninety percent of all DEM points will be accurate to one quarter of the contour interval. No DEM point shall be in error more than one half the contour interval. In determing the accuracy (or error) of any given contour, the specified horizontal tolerance will first be applied in the most favorable direction to the plotted contour position.
Areas obscurred by dense vegitation or shadow will be enclosed by a solid line and labled "Dense Woods", "Shaddow", or "Obscurred Area". Within these areas there will be no guaranteed or implied horizontal or vertical accuracies. Contours falling within these areas will be assigned unique layers within a digital file. It is further understood that within these areas the client must employ field survey techniques for map completion prior to any engineering or planning applications.

Photogrametric Densification of DEM
Automatic terrain extraction is accomplished by overlapping stereopairs. This process determines elevations by measuring x-shifts (x-parallax) in the rectified images.
Breaklines are used at all terrain breaks, drains, tops of banks, ridges, vallyes, bases of hills, edges of plateaus, edge of pavement, and/or road centerlines. Breaklines are also shown at all natural and man made abrupt changes in slope as deemed necessary.
During stereocompilation mode, ADR operators view and check generated contour data in a stereoscopic mode (3D) to ensure proper horizontal and vertical placement of the contours against the aerial imagery. Additional mass points and breaklines are added, deleted, and or modified, until the contours properly depict the terrain at a specified interval.
Once the required mass points and break lines had been stereo compiled and checked, DTM contours at 5 ft intervals were created using breaklines, mass points, and linking them all together to for the TIN.

ArcView Slope Algorithm
Slope identifies the maximum rate of change in value from each cell to its neighbors. An output slope Grid can be calculated as percent slope or degree of slope. Conceptually, the aGrid.Slope request fits a plane to the z values of a 3x3 cell neighborhood around the processing or center cell. The direction the plane faces is the aspect for the processing cell. The slope for the cell is calculated from the 3x3 neighborhood using the average maximum technique (see references).
The actual algorithm that is used to calculate slope is:

degree_slope = ATAN(rise_run) * 57.29578
where the deltas are calculated using a 3x3 roving window, where a through i represent the values in the window:

(dz/dy) = ((a + 2b + c) - (g + 2h + i)) / (8 * y_mesh_spacing)
The use of a zFactor is essential for correct slope calculations when the surface z-units are expressed in units which are different from the ground units. Degree of slope is a value between 0 and 90.
If the center cell in the immediate neighborhood (3x3 window) is No Data, the output is No Data. If any neighborhood cells are No Data, they are assigned the value of the center cell when the slope is computed.e result is a flattening of the 3x3 plane that is fit to these cells (especially at the edge of the Grid), which leads to a reduction in the slope.
